Studio

My studio is a dream, an enchanted space where magic happens.

The building is set in the back of our semi-rural property in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I designed and renovated it after my last studio on the property burned down in 2006. I wanted a timbered space full of light, my favorite element of creativity. Working with light has always been central to my practice, from my college work in photography through my continuing work in glass.

With its tall ceilings, the studio feels very spacious.

Artifacts and tools hang from the ceiling beams. My studio is in a constant state of organized chaos, set up with various work surfaces so I can choreograph my movement between different processes and pieces. I have the tools and space to create just about anything. Machines for both wood and glass materials are part of the arena.

Two smaller rooms flank the main space: a room with rows of shelves for storage, and an office with wall space to display and reflect on my pieces. Outside, I have another structure to store my wood/lumber and other studio essentials.

It is a space where I can turn images and visual ideas into realities.

Although the building is expansive, each and every square inch is utilized, filled with visual energy and movement, from sentimental ephemera and found objects to photographs, tools passed down from my ancestors, and wooden buildings. The beauty of my studio is the ability to simultaneously work on many different pieces, processes, materials, and media at once, while surrounded by things I love.
